Shortlisted for Sustainable Shipping Awards

Eco Marine Power (EMP) is honoured to announce that it has been short-listed for two prestigious Sustainable Shipping Awards for 2011. These awards recognise companies and individuals making great strides to shape and improve the environmental legacy of shipping. To be short-listed for two awards is a great achievement for EMP and this will allow the company to showcase its technology to a global audience of shipping industry professionals.

Eco Marine Power is short-listed in the Green Shipping Initiative of the Year Award category for its Aquarius System and also for the Environmental Innovation of the Year Award for its Tonbo solar-electric ferry. Greg Atkinson from EMP commented: "To be short-listed for two awards is a major step forward for our company and will help us promote our sustainable shipping solutions on a global level".

tonbo_loading1_lThe Aquarius system is a wind and solar power solution for large ships that uses an array of specially designed panels to harness renewable energy from the wind and sun. This innovative green shipping focused system is being developed as a means to reduce and fossil fuel consumption and noxious gas emissions on ships such as tankers and bulkers.

The Tonbo (shown on the left) is a solar-electric hybrid marine power (HMP) ferry that will utilise a range of technologies including solar power so that it can operate in cleaner and more cost effective manner than traditional diesel only powered vessels.

Both designs reflect Eco Marine Power's commitment to developing solutions to help world shipping lower noxious gas emissions, use less fuel and be more eco-friendly.

Winners will be announced at a Sustainable Shipping event in London on the 7th July at which around 150 maritime experts and executives will gather for the award ceremony.  Eco Marine Power will attend this event and set up a small display area to showcase some of its work.  For further details about this event please visit see: 2011 Sustainable Shipping Awards.
