Marine Renewable Energy and Ship Renewable Energy Solutions Design
Ship owners, ship managers, shipyards and vessel operators are increasingly looking to incorporate marine renewable energy & hybrid marine power technologies into the mix of propulsion & power systems for their vessels. Not only do these technologies reduce noxious gas emissions but they also reduce fuel consumption and deliver cost savings to vessel operators and/or owners.
To help develop the right solution for each vessel or ship, Eco Marine Power works with strategic partners to design eco-friendly marine power solutions that include the latest solar power, wind power and energy management technologies.
Renewable Energy and Zero Emission Solutions for Ships
Aquarius Eco Ship with Aquarius MREOur unique renewable energy for ship solutions include design concepts exclusively developed by Eco Marine Power (EMP) such as the Aquarius Eco Ship, Tonbo Solar-Electric Hybrid Ferry ('Tonbo') and Medaka Eco Commuter Ferry ('Medaka') or include technologies developed in co-operation with or supplied by, our strategic technology partners both in Japan and overseas.
We also provide guidance regarding matching the most suitable Marine Batteries to the customers application in co-operation with The Furukawa Battery Company of Japan.
These class-approved high quality batteries include the sealed Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) types and the Ultra Battery (UB) series that incorporate hybrid battery technology.
Consulting Services & Renewable Energy Surveys for Ships, Fleets or Offshore Platforms
Trying to work out which environmentally friendly power system is best for a particular boat, ship, ferry or vessel etc can be a daunting task. Not only is there are a wide range of options available, but the cost of these systems also varies considerably. In addition, the environmental and cost benefits of these solutions are difficult to asses and compare against similar traditional systems.
Eco Marine Power can assist ship owners, shipyards, ferry operators & cruise lines to navigate through this maze of data and propose solutions that will best meet their needs. We can also help with advice on various technologies such as energy storage, solar panels, marine solar power and marine computer systems.
Eco-Ship, Green Ship, Low Emission Ship & Sustainable Shipping Studies
Medaka Eco Commuter Solar Ferry | Eco Marine Power
Eco Marine Power is at the forefront of developing innovative low emission ship design concepts and marine renewable energy solutions that use the power of the wind and sun to help power ships of all sizes.
As part of this work we undertake green ship design studies either alone or with technology partners in order to develop concept designs & specifications. We also work with ship designers, shipyards, government agencies or other interested parties to commercialise these designs.
Currently we are working on an Eco Ship concept study that will incorporate our patented Aquarius MRE & EnergySail technologies. We are also studying how solar-electric vessels can be used as part of a modern transport network on urban waterways.
In addition we are exploring the use of marine renewable energy technology on Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV's).

Ship Battery Replacement and Management Service
During the past few years Furukawa Battery and EMP have been cooperating with the development of renewable energy solutions for ships and have jointly undertaken a number of projects to study and implement marine solar power solutions. During these projects class-approved batteries were installed, however it became obvious that there was scope to utilize battery technologies from Furukawa Battery for other applications on-board ships.
Furukawa Battery FCR-50-12 Battery Cycles
The FCR series batteries for example are ideally suited for 24 VDC emergency back-up battery banks and due to their long-life characteristics they do not need to be replaced as often as many batteries currently being used for this purpose. Additionally they are over 90% recyclable and therefore they are an environmentally friendly option as well. The FCR series are a safe, reliable and easy to install energy storage option and have superior performance characteristics when compared to other similar battery technologies. They also offer customers a less complicated alternative to lithium-ion batteries. Other class-approved battery types available include the UltraBattery®, FCP and FC series.
As part of the Ship Battery Replacement and Management Service, Furukawa Battery and EMP will review the installed batteries on a fleet basis and provide recommendations to ship owners or ship managers regarding replacements or upgrades. Details regarding how a testing plan can extend the life of the installed batteries will also be included. In addition advice regarding safety or storage issues will be highlighted.
In addition to recommending and supplying replacement batteries, Furukawa Battery and EMP can arrange to supply battery cable sets, battery spacers, battery frame kits and battery test units.
