Low Emission Water Transport for Urban Waterways | Medaka Eco Commuter Ferry | The Medaka solar electric eco-ferry or eco commuter ferry is being developed by Eco Marine Power (EMP) and it's strategic partners with the aim of providing a cost effective water transport solution for the low carbon & clean energy cities of the future. The Medaka includes a range of cutting-edge technologies such as an advanced battery management system, Lithium NMC battery technology, electric propulsion and a unique marine solar panel array. These technologies will work together to dramatically reduce fuel consumption and the emission of noxious exhaust gases. Primarily the Medaka is designed to operate as a urban commuter ferry but it could also fulfil the role of a sightseeing vessel or tourist cruiser for example. The Medaka could also operate like the water transport equivalent of light rail. It will be light, nimble and able to operate totally emission free when running on batteries. In addition this eco ferry will be significantly quieter than existing commuter vessels which is becoming increasingly important in cities where residential homes are located along waterways. As part of the Medaka design project Eco Marine Power is also looking into the wider aspects of how commuter ferries can be better operated and methods to reduce maintenance costs by using for example, the Aquarius Monitoring and Automation System or Aquarius MASTM. For example advanced hyrbid battery technology is being incorporated into the design of the Medaka. These batteries are not only 99% recyclable but also require no maintenance. In addition they are fully sealed thus removing the danger leaking chemicals may pose to the environment. Medaka Eco Commuter Ferry (Preliminary Information)
