Are solar panels suitable for use on ships?

Yes. Our marine solar power solutions use marine-grade photovoltaic (PV) modules.

Can the solar panel size be customized?

Yes panels can be customized to a point depending on the technology and individual cell sizes however customized panels will cost more than standard panels. solbian_panels_480x680

Can the performance of a marine solar power system be monitored and performance data collected?

Yes. Our standard marine solar power solution includes an alarm & performance monitoring system known as the Aquarius MAS. This type-approved marine computer system can collect data from the solar panels, monitor the status of batteries, display alarms and even turn equipment on or off.

What is an MPPT Charge Controller?

A Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charge controller is used to optimize a solar panel array's output which can fluctuate based on shading and temperature variables. Generally speaking our marine solar power solutions use 1 MPPT charge controller for a string of panels (typically around 8) but it is also possible to use a less complex charge controller for each panel.

Can Eco Marine Power design a complete marine solar power system for a ship or vessel?

Yes. Eco Marine Power along with technical partners can provide a total marine solar power design including energy storage and the computer management system. (Aquarius MAS)

How can the solar panels be installed on a ship or vessel?

There is a variety of ways to install the panels on a ship or vessel. For example they can be attached directly to the deck using a special adhesive backing or mounted on special mounting frames. There are many options available and Eco Marine Power can provide advice on which options are available.

Can only solar panels be ordered?

Yes we can supply just solar panels, solar panels with mounting frames or accessories for shipping or marine related projects.

Yes marine batteries suitable for use on ships can be supplied either as part of a total system or by themselves. The batteries are manufactured by the Furukawa Battery Company of Japan.

For large ships can Eco Marine Power supply the mounting frames for the solar panels?

If mounting frames are needed then they can be supplied via our technical partner – Teramoto Iron Works.

Do the solar panels come with connectors and a junction box?

If requested the panels will be supplied with a junction box, bypass diodes and connectors. Cables can also be supplied.

The Aquarius Management and Automation System or Aquarius MAS is a cost effective alarm handling, monitoring, process handling and data logging platform suitable for a wide range of ships. The system is based upon the reliable and robust KEI 3240 Data Logger and is class approved. The Aquarius MAS can also monitor fuel use & calculate vessel emissions.
